Great Web & Print Graphic Resource

I'm working on a project for the shop and the sign needed has a very "anthropologie" feel to it.

So, I started browsing the web looking for some paper textures and backgrounds.

I found a website called Lost and Taken and it features some phenomenol quality backgrounds that are really professionally done and looks great.

These are also great for powerpoint presentations, and web work too (which I will be using shortly). Best of all they are totally free.

Here is the website and enjoy!

Ho Ho Ho, Go Google Go

I noticed some issues with my Google analytics. Glad it wasn't just me. Google is clearly testing some new things here, and with the instant update it is no surprise that the traffic counts have gone a little squirrely.

Here are some of the reasons taken from the article…

I think the reasons they do it are likely 3 or 4 fold

  • they want to make SEO unpredictable & unreliable (which ultimately means less resources are spent on SEO & the results are overall less manipulated)
  • they want to force businesses (who just stocked up on inventory) to enter the AdWords game in a big way
  • by making changes to the core relevancy algorithms (and having the market discuss those) they can slide in more self promotion via their vertical search services without it drawing much anti-trust scrutiny
  • the holidays are when conversion rates are the highest, so if they want to make changes to seek additional yield it is the best time to do it, and the holidays give them an excuse to offer specials or beta tests of various sorts

If I Had Unlimited Resources, I Would…

I would create a metropolis in the middle of US where land is really cheap.

West of Kansas somewhere.

It would be a family version of Las Vegas focusing on technology, industry, and fun.

With the interwebs, it could attract folks with excellent transportation through airlines, and bullet trains. And food would not be a problem hence the location.

I thought of that about 12 years ago, and still think it as viable as ever.

Who knows maybe someone will do it, and I will move there. Lol.

It will always take longer…

I started a “quick” web project on Monday and I thought it would take no longer than a day.

I was wrong.

One of the elders that I look up to always says, “Whatever you think it is double and 50%. If you think it costs $10k, account for $25k”T

The same holds true for time.

Well it is now Thursday at 1:59AM my time and I finally finished it.

I learned a heck of a lot along the way but it did take a lot of time.

Use the rule above for your benefit. It could serve you well, especially if you are easily distracted with all the entrepreneurial happenings like I am.

Stay productive,
Mark

P.S. I did find that PayPal shopping cart is infinitely easier to work with than some shopping cart software out there.
